Denzil Chetty is a faculty member in the Department of Religious Studies and Arabic at the University of South Africa (UNISA) and a graduate of the former University of Durban-Westville (now the University of KwaZulu-Natal). He is currently seconded to lead two institutional strategic initiatives: the Academic Development Open Virtual Hub (ADOVH), which focuses on developing students’ digital competencies for effective learning in a technology-mediated university, and the Advancing African Digital Humanities Ideation Hub (AADHIH), an interdisciplinary initiative in the College of Human Sciences. His research interests span the intersections of religion, technology, and society; education and digital innovation; and digital humanities. His work explores how technological transformations shape knowledge production, pedagogy, and scholarly practice, particularly within African contexts. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Abe Bailey Fellowship (UK, 2003), the UNISA Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (2011), the Shanghai Open University African Visiting Scholar Award (China, 2014), and the UNISA Excellence Award in Teaching and Learning (2015). His scholarly output includes several peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books, guest editorships, and active participation in national and international conferences.
